If you live in, or are visiting, Central Florida, you'll want to take a look at this list of the 10 best homeschool field trip ideas for Central Florida homeschoolers.

One of the best things about being Central Florida homeschoolers is our access to local resources.

Homeschooling is such a norm in Central Florida, that nearly every organization offers something specific to homeschoolers.

I've been homeschooling for almost 17 years and have visited a lot of places. Whether you live here or plan to visit, you'll want to schedule some time to visit these places.

In this post, Central Florida refers to the counties of Orange, Lake, Osceola, Seminole, Marion, Sumter, Volusia, and Brevard.

Orlando Science Center in Orlando - The science center offers four floors of live programming, giant screen movies, and hands-on, interactive science exhibits. Homeschoolers can even sign up for STEM classes!

Kennedy Space Center in Titusville - I'm not sure I need to write a description here. We all know what Kennedy Space Center is, right? If you have a science-loving kid, or a future space explorer, this is the place you'll want to visit.

Barberville Pioneer Settlement in Barberville - I love history and visiting historical places which makes this one a favorite. This little "village" makes for a fun living history field trip. They hold events, classes, and themed field trips at reasonable rates.

Orange County Regional History Center in Orlando - You'll find three floors (67,000 sq ft) of exhibitions in this history museum. They offer exhibitions, tours, and programs that trace our region’s roots and reflect on the history of the nation. Homeschool classes are available.

Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Sanford - Yes, it's a zoo, but with a lot of fun, educational events and activities! Have an adventure on the aerial adventure course or take a swimsuit to cool-off in the Wharton-Smith Tropical Splash Ground. Homeschool classes and workshops available.

Ocala National Forest - A place that is near and dear to my heart (I used to live in this forest), this is a perfect place to expose your young naturalist to the real Florida.

Long and Scott Farms - Great for farm tours, corn and sunflower mazes, and more! Homeschool groups welcome. (We love the sunflower maze!)

Florida State Parks - Any of them. All of them. Take your pick. Many offer educational classes and there's always plenty to learn in our state's forests.

Gillespie Museum of Minerals in DeLand - One of Lorelai's favorites! Located at Stetson University, this museum boasts a collection of 20,000 mineral, rock, and fossil specimens. This was one of Lorelai's favorite field trips. (She loves science. And rocks.)

Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet - This center offers 4-part school tours: a tour through the exhibit gallery, a visit to the Sea Turtle and Seabird Rehabilitation areas, and an educational program beside the Ponce Inlet at Lighthouse Point Park beach.

  1. I just stumbled upon your blog. Looks like we live within an hour of each other. Brevard Zoo on the coast is small but excellent, a very well done zoo that doesn't take too long to go through. I also love the wetlands for wildlife viewing, any of them, but especially the ones in Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. A farther drive for me but still central Florida, the Dali Museum in Tampa is fantastic and would be fun for kids because of the wackiness of surrealism.
