5 Books Every Naturalist Should Own

books-naturalist

Being equipped with helpful resources is key to successful nature studies, no matter the season.

Because most of us aren't in the habit of viewing winter as a prime season for outdoor time, having these resources proves to be even more helpful.

If you're going to successfully grow a naturalist, I recommend you get these books onto your bookshelf.

The Handbook of Nature Study

This book is a must-have for anyone studying nature. Not only will you find ideas for winter nature studies, this book will enhance your overall knowledge of nature. Topics abound in this book!

Pocketful of Pinecones

What's great about this book is that it reads like a fictional story, but is a terrific how-to guide for nature study.

Keeping a Nature Journal

Keeping a nature journal is important for many reasons.

  • Writing helps you retain what you've learned.
  • Sketching gives you a new perspective.
  • Keeping a record provides a scrapbook of your nature adventures!
This book will help you see the natural world in a new way.

The Nature Connection

An ideal book for young children (ages 8-13) and families who are new to nature study. Seriously. I love this book! It's an interactive guide to true nature appreciation.

Field Guides

Field guides are an essential. Peterson Field Guides, for instance, help you learn about and identify everything from plants and birds to tracks and mammals.
