best-friends

If you're looking for a best friend, I may or may not be that person.

I'm pretty easy to get along with, am fiercely loyal, and I don't believe friendship is a here-today-gone-tomorrow thing. When I am someone's friend, I love them as if they were my own flesh and blood.

Because of that, I have many acquaintances, but usually only have one or two people I call friends. I mean, that's a pretty intense feeling - love - and it isn't something you dish out to every person you meet, is it?

But this post isn't about me choosing you for a friend. Rather, it's about whether you would choose me for a friend.

So would I be a good BFF fit for you? I have no idea, but if I'm ever a candidate for being your best friend, you should probably know a few weird things about me first.

It's important to be thankful, even in the face of hardship. Here are the things I'm grateful for right now.

This hasn't been the easiest year. I've had several things go very wrong. Big, life-changing things. It would be easy to slip away from gratitude and approach a place of bitterness.

But that's not me. I don't do grudges or bitterness very well. I move on and find the positives in my life.

Here are 10 things I'm grateful for right now.

Toys come and toys go. Except when they don't. Some toys seem to be interesting generation after generation.

I've been noticing the toys my kids have enjoyed and many are the same toys I had as a child. (I realize some of ya'll don't know this, but that was a long time ago.) Anyway, I'm sharing ...

The benefits of homeschooling cannot be overstated.

There are obvious benefits such as individualized learning and plenty of one-on-one time. I've found there are plenty of unexpected benefits as well.

10 Things You Should Know About Aspies

Aspie is a nickname of sorts for someone who has Aspergers Syndrome. Asperger's is a high functioning form of autism.

Like all forms, it's on a spectrum.

Some aspies are higher functioning than others. The higher-functioning, the fewer symptoms exist in that person.

Our Family's 10 Favorite Southern Foods

We're Southern. There's just no two ways about that. Whether our diets are geared around special needs, vegetarianism or a particular fondness for a type of cuisine, when all is said and done, we're southern people who eat southern foods.

I use to write a Southern Cooking blog but found I lacked time and inclination to maintain it. (Apparently I love eating it far more than blogging about it.)

For this week only, I am undeleting the blog so that you can get the recipes for some of these.

10 Things That Make This Mama Happy

1. Nature - This can mean hiking or taking a nature walk. As long as I'm outside, I'm happy. Nature eases anxieties, leads to discoveries, and helps us to understand our Creator a little better.

Not often can I say a book has changed my life. I love reading and over the years have read countless books on all sorts of subjects. When I was younger, I read mostly parenting books.

I haven't read any of those in many years now. As I've grown older and more experienced at life, I've grown to like myself and not feel I need "experts" to tell me what to do. Most of those books only served to make me feel like I wasn't a good-enough parent anyway. And traveling from one expert's opinion to another only served to confuse me.

There were some books, however, that made a difference for me. In chronological order of life-changing effect are...

A homeschool mom is inspired to take a humorous look at life lessons we can learn from the children's cartoon, "Phineas and Ferb."
What happens when you've been up all night, your 10-year-old finally falls asleep at 5 a.m., and you have an appointment at 6:30 a.m.?

I can't answer for you, but apparently what I do is lie down in front of a television and find inspiration in a cartoon.
