Summer Reading Plans and a Freebie

Summer Reading Plans

Yesterday we visited our local library for the first time since moving here. Boy, were the girls excited! Alexis was thrilled to find manga books at the library. The previous library system had nothing of the sort. She brought home a big stack of them.

Lorelai, who doesn't like to read, loves going to the library to play but not to get books. This time, however, was different. This time, the librarian told her about some summer fun they have going on at the library.
  • On Sundays they have an ice cream social.
  • On Mondays, they have various activities. (One week is Japanese Drumming, another is Water Games, another is Swamp Girl Adventures.)
  • Reading challenges are held for teens and younger children.
If Lorelai reports every Monday that she's read 15 minutes each day, she'll be invited to a pizza party at the end of the Summer Reading Program. That motivated her! She doesn't even like pizza, but she loves parties. So she jumped at the chance to get books and read them.

Alexis loves to read but avoids it due to her Dyslexia. Still, there is a teen reading challenge going on called Teen Bingo. Each task is an entry into a drawing for an MP3 player.

We also quickly discovered that outside the library is a park complete with playground, numerous sports fields/courts, and a concession stand with pavilion. Oh! Won't the trips be fun now

I'm adding these two activities/challenges to our summer study plans

Will your children be reading books this summer?
